WHAT TO EXPECT?

Program Structure

We will meet four times over the course of seven months from Thursdays through Mondays from 9 am - 6 pm. This modular format allows for greater flexibility when making arrangements with work, school and/or family, as well as the opportunity to integrate the teachings into your daily life.

The daily schedule includes a mix of lecture, asana, pranayama, meditation, group work, reflection and student teaching. We will break for 1.5 hours for lunch and have shorter breaks throughout the day. When the weather is nice, we will do our best to get outside and take advantage of the incredible mountain scenery, the Truckee River and the lush gardens.

You must be present for the entire training to receive the certification of completion for the 200HR yoga teacher training. If traveling from elsewhere, book your flights to allow time before and after class. See the FAQ for detailed guidance on travel.

Monthly Mentorship

We believe that community, consistency and engagement are the winning ingredients for an impactful yoga teacher training. One of the most amazing aspects of this training is the mentorship that students will receive in the time between modules. This allows for personalized attention to help you digest the information received as well as integrate the practices into your daily life. Your mentors will include our Alaya Apprentices, Meg, and Ashleigh.

This extra support is invaluable as you understand, deepen, digest and integrate the experiences of the teachings and practices.

Shari Beard | Meditation Teacher Expand

Mama, lover, teacher, friend. Daughter, sister, auntie, dog owner.

Meditator, yogi, climber, skier, dancer, art dabbler, nature enthusiast.

Shari has been at this yoga thing since 1996 amongst the mountains of Lake Tahoe and became devoted to it when she took the leap to start teaching in Truckee, CA in 2003.   She has been teaching full time ever since in the glorious mountains.  What she has discovered is this path chose her.  It would not let her off if she tried.  She always tells people that sign up for Teacher Training, “Get ready for your whole life to change.”  She taught yoga and resisted meditation for another 8 years. Eventually life made it clear she could no longer run away and would have to sit with the mind.  Her marriage had become toxic and her young daughter was bringing everything up that needed to be healed/held.  Embracing meditation has given her the life that she has always wanted to live, that of great depth and intimacy with all of it.  She can truly say she loves this life, the ups and downs, the fun times and the rough times, even the dreadful past that haunts, the dirty floors/dishes/laundry and the aging body.  All of it is so incredibly beautiful!  She is forever grateful to yoga.

Shari teaches to the life that is presenting itself.  She loves asana for everything it does for the body and being, but it is not the main focus of what she likes to share.  She intends to nurture the connection to one's own heart. She is a lover.  People come to her classes, workshops, and trainings to learn how to love, be loved and remember they are loved. She encourages vulnerability, imperfection, getting messy and falling apart.  She strives to embrace with her students through the tougher emotions such as shame, guilt, anger, grief, and doubt.  She walks alongside her students where they support each other in this school of life, where life is continuing to experience itself. Enjoying the unfolding as it happens.  Her relationships are richer.  She loves being mama even though it's the hardest thing she has ever done.  Her capacity to let life in is greater and in that she finds herself blown away by the awe of it all.

Shari loves serving her local community and promoting connections. She enjoys sharing series which give her a chance to go deeper with people that don’t want to necessarily complete a yoga teacher training. Currently, she is teaching Yoga for Fulfillment, plus with her partner Ben Grasseschi, Yoga and Meditation for Men. She also loves holding the space for silence for individuals and exploring nature, whether it’s hiking, biking or nordic skiing. She also is holding Satsang once a month at the Wanderlust Studio in Squaw.

Training: Shari’s training started in Nosara with Don and Amba Stapleton and then the list goes on to David Swenson(Ashtanga), the crew at the Iyengar Institute of San Francisco including Judith Lasater, Eddie Modestini and Nikki Doane from Maya Yoga, lots of Anusara teachers including Noah Maze, Abby Tucker, Christina Sells, Sianna Sherman, Desire Rumbaugh, Elena Brower. She has also studied Yoga Psychology with Ashley Turner. Shari found a spiritual teacher in 2012 that inspired her to dive deep into meditation and now she spends time each year in silent retreat with Adyashanti.

What has been most powerful for Shari’s teaching has been the joy and privilege of assisting Meg McCracken and sometimes Ashleigh Sargent in training amazing teachers the last 6 years for the Wanderlust Teacher Training.

From Our Students

"To say that my 200HR yoga teacher training was amazing would be selling it short. I can honestly say that the experience was life-changing and I am forever grateful for our guides, the guest scholars and my peers. What delighted me the most was the bonds that our group forged and the new family that emerged from the laughter, the tears, the talks and the movement. I feel prepared to go and teach, expand my personal home practice and navigate this complex world through the lens of the yogi. Thank you all so much!" - Kelly Benson, 200-RYT

“I signed up for Meg’s 200 hr YTT not having a single clue as to “why”. I just felt a calling at that time of my life to take a deeper dive into something that I was curious about learning more of. What an incredible decision it turned out to be! Meg has an innate teaching ability to make the training feel that it is entirely catered exactly to what YOU need in your life. I learned things that I didn’t know I needed to learn, felt things deeply that I didn’t know could be felt, and rejoiced in the overall experience at the end of each of the 4 beautifully unique but cohesive modules. Whatever you are looking to get out of this training, you’ll get it….but you’ll also receive SO much more." - Bridget Brown, 200-RYT

"This YTT led by the wonderful Meg was one of the best experiences in my life. Her authenticity, her capacity to transmit, to share all her wisdom and knowledge from the heart about yoga, with such dedication, respect and humility was mind-blowing. She has such a special way to create a sacred space and leave everything to unfold as it is meant to be, leaving me the space I needed to explore and grow, in order to develop my own yoga teaching skills.
This is the best YYT I could have hoped for. She truly sees people as they are and she has an extraordinary way to bring the best out of them. And thanks to her, I've also found my tribe, those incredible beings who are now friends for life. If you are thinking about training with her, I can only tell you, 'stop thinking and just do it, you will love it!" - Marika McGoldrick, 200-RYT & Life Coach

"Before I walked into Meg’s teacher training I was just searching for something to round out my wellness coaching business. I had been to a handful of yoga classes in my life, some meditation and I certainly don’t have the body type of the participants one might see in yoga ads. Not only did I feel like I was completely accepted when I walked into Meg’s container, but I was celebrated. Every step was mind-blowing, raw and inspiring. After 200 amazing hours with Meg, her teacher assistant, Shari, and my classmates, not only do I feel ready to teach and empowered to share my gifts with the world but I found my tribe, my framily. And I am eternally grateful!!" - Kachina K'ang, 200-RYT & Women's Empowerment Coach

I got the blessing of working with Meg in my 200 hr yoga training and I value that period of one of the most pivotal growth investments of my life so far. I learned so much more than just the physical practice and yoga and it was at that point of my life that I started to lean into the power of mindfulness and meditation. I now teach yoga regularly and love to share the practices with others. - Coral Lee, 200-RYT

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m new to yoga. Can I take this training? Expand

If you are new to yoga and are interested in taking this training, we would like to have a conversation with you first to see if the training would be a good fit. We will consider new students on a case-by-case basis.

Otherwise, if you have done yoga a handful of times but still consider yourself a beginner or close to intermediate, then please do apply.

This training is also inclusive to those with a consistent practice and who consider themselves intermediate to advanced. Every pose can be modified to accommodate levels and this training is focused on helping you develop into a knowledgeable teacher.

I have an injury or a modified practice. Is that okay for this YTT? Expand

Yes, absolutely. Every pose can easily be modified to fit your unique circumstances and we will ensure that you are comfortable during lectures and time spent moving outside. Please let us know if there are special props or accommodations that can assist with your experience after applying and registering.

What do I need to bring to this YTT? Expand

Bring whatever you need to be comfortable each day and be organized during class and spend time outside. This may include:

  • A water bottle
  • A notebook
  • Comfy and active clothes
  • A sweater and/or scarf for savasana
  • A hat, sunglasses and protection when sitting outside
  • A blanket or something to lay down on the earth when we are outside

You will not need to bring your own yoga mat or other yoga supplies, but you are welcome to if you'd feel more at home.

Do we get free time during the day? Expand

We break for approximately 1.5 hours for lunch each day and take multiple 10 and 15-minute breaks throughout. You are welcome to leave the venue during lunch but we ask that you remain on-site during the small breaks.

How many participants will there be? Expand

It varies, but we expect between 15 and 20 students for the 200HR yoga teacher training.

When should I arrive/depart for each module? Expand

If you are traveling from out-of-town, we recommend that you arrive at least the day before the module begins (Wednesday) and give yourself time after the module ends (6 pm on Monday). Ideally, this means you will have an extra day on either end so you are not in a rush and feel well-rested.

How do I arrange lodging with local students? Expand

After you register, our Student Liaison will be in contact with you. At that time, you can discuss the option to stay with our local students and they will facilitate an introduction. Staying with another student is a fantastic way to create meaningful connections, save costs, and immerse yourself deeper into the trainings. This is also a great option to carpool and skip renting a car.

What do I do about food each day? Expand

You are responsible for your own food throughout the day. There will be a kitchen available for use during the lunch break where you can store your food in a refrigerator and heat it up in a microwave. There will be fresh water available throughout the day, but please bring your own water container. Please also bring your own plates and utensils to use and wash at home.

Is there someone to help me figure out travel logistics? Expand

Yes, our Student Liaison is happy to discuss your travel plans so you feel comfortable with flights, rental cars, or staying with local students. Once registered, the Liaison will be in touch with you to discuss further.

Do I need to attend all hours? Expand

You are required to attend all in-classroom hours unless otherwise arranged with our team ahead of time.
