ADVANCED TEACHING SKILLS

OUR LOCATION

Knoll Farm is based in the Mad River Valley of central Vermont. The farm is known for raising purebred Icelandic sheep and organic pick-your-own blueberries.  Knoll Farm is also home of The Refuge,  a retreat center well known nationally as a place where leadership, relationships, and well being are given space to flourish.

THE LODGING

6 nights and days lodging in yurts (2-4 people per yurt), quads, and two double occupancy rooms are available. The yurts are light and airy with windows, skylight, and decks surrounding them. They also include outdoor fire pits for campfires at night. You will have the experience of being immersed in nature with birdsong, stars and peace. The beautiful adobe bathhouse, centrally located to the yurts, has sinks, hot showers with private changing rooms, and flush toilets. Just outside the bath house is a hot tub to enjoy in the evenings.

THE FOOD

You will enjoy three meals a day served family style in the Knoll Farm barn. Food is fundamental and what Knoll Farm is known for.  Farm to table and made with love and their belief in radical hospitality. Outdoor wood-fired pizza, blueberry muffins made from the fresh berries picked from the farm, herbed butters made by Helen that day with every last leaf that she harvested from the plant to be sure there is no waste.  Dining together in the barn or out under the stars or picnic style depending on the meal the weather and the day. The Refuge is happy to cater to food allergies and dietary restrictions as needed, so long as they know ahead of time. They also provide coffee and tea all day, and have a guest fridge where you can store your own snacks.

THE LAND

Guests are encouraged to explore Knoll Farm's  certified organic family farm in the heart of the Green Mountains, near Waitsfield, Vermont. The land has been in agriculture since 1804 and its buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. The land, which tilts to the southeast, is perfectly suited for growing berries. The resident flock of Icelandic sheep enjoys the pastures and woodland edges. The land has spectacular views of the Northfield and Green Mountain ranges.

ASHLEIGH SERGEANT ERYT500

Lead Teacher
Growing up with a yoga teacher as her mother, Ashleigh began her exploration of yoga at an early age, dedicated to the pursuit of healing a lifelong spine condition. As the Head of Yoga Content for Gaia.com, Director of Yoga and Movement for The Envision Festival in Costa Rica, and co-founder of The Ālaya Yoga School, Ashleigh Sergeant also spent five years as the Global Yoga Trainer for Adidas and was honored to be the youngest Certified Anusara Yoga Instructor in the world. With more than 15 years teaching experience, Ashleigh’s first teachers include Bryan Kest and Baron Baptiste. She received her first 200-HR teaching certification at the Himalayan Institute, strongly influenced by Rod Stryker’s ParaYoga, something she continues to study. Today, Ashleigh brings thousands of hours of experience to her teaching, including the knowledge of therapeutic asana gained from traveling with and assisting John Friend, the founder of Anusara Yoga. Ashleigh’s present passion is the deep exploration of the mystical and energetic side of yoga practices. For this her primary teacher and long time inspiration is the great Sally Kempton.

MEG MCCRAKEN ERYT500

Lead Teacher
Meg is passionate about sharing the full, rich teachings of yoga and meditation in a truly experiential way that helps us to positively transform and enrich our lives. Having worked as a yoga therapist for over a decade, she is continually inspired by the vitality of the human spirit and the power of yoga to help us tap into a source deep inner-peace and well-being. She been sharing the yoga life with all kinds of seekers for over 18 years and is the Co-Founder of the Alaya Yoga School; a Wanderlust Presenter and Teacher Trainer; featured teacher on Gaia; and the original founder of Simple Yoga and Wellness Studio. She is a passionate community builder and gives talks, leads teacher trainings, satsangs, workshops and retreats all over the world.

Ashleigh is one of my favorite people to teach and be with. She creates a safe space for learning, but not sheltering you from the truth of your own body. Whenever I'm with Ashleigh I feel more confident within my self and more connected to my path of truth and service.

Dr. Mike Lane, DC

Ashleigh’s teaching connects my body to my breathe, my heart-spirit to my mind. Opening, rejuvenating, and calming my entire being.

Rooted in yoga's ancient teaching, inspiring through her modern experience and interpretation, Ashleigh’s classes not only give me a better understanding of the original ideas and philosophies of yoga, they also inspire me to try and embody these sacred thoughts in a modern life.

Physically, Ashleigh’s classes take on a level of intuition and spontaneity that only the best teachers and guides I know can reach. Reacting and responding nimbly to the group dynamic of those practicing. Not leaving anybody behind while creating challenge and interest for the most experienced. We all reach our personal summit smiling and aware of the beauty in every step we've taken.

Creating music through movement, mantras and meditation. Your classes sing to me.
